GOVERNMENT
The Dominican Republic is a representative democracy with a presidential regime. Its constitution divides state authority into three branches: the executive, exercised by the President and their cabinet; the legislative, managed by a bicameral parliamentary body; and an independent judicial system.
The President serves a four-year term and can only be re-elected once. The President also acts as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.
In the National Congress, the Senate consists of 32 seats, one for each province, and the Chamber of Deputies has 190 seats, one for every 50,000 citizens. Members of both chambers are elected by popular vote to serve four-year terms.
